Do YOU believe?

by Clint on June 7, 2010

Never was there a time in my lifetime, or that of millions of other Canadians where we felt such a strong sense of patriotism as we did during the hosting of the 2010 Winter Olympics this past February in Vancouver. The theme song “I believe” was the catalyst that sparked emotions in it’s citizens from coast to coast. In times that are most uncertain both here in Canada and abroad, we all needed something new to restore our faith in who we are as a nation.

Here is one of a few video clips that started one of the largest shows of patriotism I have seen in my 50 year’s (yes I am that old) of life as a Canadian …

“You have really shown not just what you’re capable of, what your generation is capable of, but what our country will be capable of in the future.”  -The Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada

If we believe in a cause, we can accomplish much together and the rewards are many.  Pertaining to Portal Hypertension (PH) and its dangerous side-effects, we all no doubt would be estatic if  a cure was found.  When I first saw the video above it not only inspired my sense of pride in my country, but it gave me the idea that we as fellow sufferers need to pull together in making our voice heard regarding this condition.  There are many good ‘health’ causes out there, and many diseases that are better known than PH, but if we can raise awareness we might get the wheels turning somewhere and possibly a cure may be found?  Recently we  have seen a glimmer of hope for children with PH, and there are now many who have shown good results with the Rex Shunt Procedure.

In the event a cure is not ‘in the cards’ for us anytime soon, at the very least we must also continue to believe that by sharing our stories we are helping others to cope with the disease.  Another part of the vision I have for this site is to build a data base or directory where others can access better medical care in their part of the world and hopefully that will happen as time progresses?  I’ve also provided an overview of the condition from a lay person’s point of view, and this also was part of my vision to help readers better understand what they are up against.  By all estimations, there are not many of us out there, so we must band together and BELIEVE for the good of us all!

I still BELIEVE … do you?
